It can be very gray here on this planet
In our neighborhood sometimes you can’t see to the end of the block
The sky is gray
The street is gray
The lake is gray
Almost as if we’d camouflage in gray clothes and huddle back under the covers
Sink in cups or coffee or books and try to blend into the background until the sun returns
And if you do Ok there’s nothing wrong with that
Your gray is as gorgeous as the sky
Monotone steady as a heartbeat
But I want you to know there’s always color if you look
Marigold dashes down the middle of the road
And the pink flash of a cat’s tongue
The superabundant green of laurel leaves
A tangerine is a tiny firework
Red mailbox flags
A jar of peanut butter is filled with gold

Golden.
