Prayer for Poets with Broken Hearts

Today's poem is a prayer
for poets with broken hearts

ay it hurts to live
to be alive
sometimes

there are moments when i wanna numb myself
numb myself and not feel a damn thing
fly high and not mind the passing of time or damage done
but it's pointless to be alive and numb
an oxymoron / no pun
intended

today i may hurt
grieve
feel afraid
or indulge in the rage
i'm entitled dammit
tired of being taken for a damn fool
and the bitter taste in my spit
rude wake up calls
hurricane aftermaths that rip away facades
what prove to be false
reveal fresh roots and bonds
shockwaves shipwrecks
remind me
it hurts to live
to be alive
sometimes

i am alive
i hurt
i love
and still i'm alive

today's poem is
a prayer for poets
who walk
and live with broken hearts
like me who stand as
i face the sun
through my tears

thank you so much
for the hurt

FROM MEMORY

You draw the road home.
“Freak’n awesome” your dad says.
Or so says your mom.

Bond

We built this house together
A collaboration like
 floating down the river
 with you on my chest
 I was working towards
 A smile cracked open
 I was peering into
 That future
 Already mourning
 The distance that spreads out
 And makes itself at home
 Between me
 And other people

before bed

high, thick hum
slow, short inhale
scutter of mouse
thumb peeling off a screen.
our refrigerator is digesting an ice cube,
a phantom electronic chirps,
and my lover trips her breath
over a flap of phlegm.
hmmm.
ah.
mm.

Good Little Matey

This subject returning as coda,
but if it seems as motif,
spit splattered ear,
full of nostalgia of and for it,
paper trailed through strips
of Wetherspoons receipts,
then I was here - when?
And we spoke of this then too?

And honestly, it's alright mate,
I know how it looks,
I have gone and faded,
but somehow you've kept me right here,
the sad spit reminds me,
and frost soon becomes dew,
settles down again some night,
it forms the closeness,
that crept through the creep of winter.

Yes, we're family now,
dare we leave ourselves,
a dampened chill for our bones.

poem #9

sometimes it seems
life is too easy
even when it feels hard
too boring
to take up space
writing this poem
what am i doing wrong?

Ancora

-
I had forgotten
How exquisitely painful
Desire like this could be
Your teeth sunk
Deep into my shoulder
And the gnawing need
For more
The fraying tether
Is brittle rubber
Breaking around the
Metal chain core
That explains my eyes
Still holding
After all this time
Your eyes like
Chestnuts roasting
Per me, era fuoco
You taught me not to wilt
In the face of flames
