THANK YOU NOTE TO T.S. ELIOT FOR THE MAGI POEM

Sir you have been kind
taking me by the hand
I who spun gold into straw
batted at men like a mosquito

You were patient and did not abandon me
though like your camels I galled, refractory
sore-footed indigent camel (me)
and a silken sherbet girl with smeared lipstick

All that was a long time ago, I remember
but you set down this,
set down this:
There was a birth.

Now in the hard and bitter agony
the oft-unanswered inquiry
the voices singing this was folly
and the discontenting company,

Thank you for the record of the journey.
