Seer
Seer
Her name is Claire
From Ireland
She was Irish
At least she thought so
Claire could see the future
Or one path of the future
Many things had to go according to plan
For her future to play out
Claire was very shy
And did not tell of her ability
For she was afraid
People would fear her
Or ask her for advice
Which she would invariably give
Which put the person
On the very path Claire foresaw
She knew she would marry
Monsieur Voyant
A travelling salesman from Chartres
Who had wavy hair and a casual demeanor
They would travel Europe in an expensive motorcar
And laugh at the dawn
And sing into the evening
Filled with each others expectations.
This woman and man
Are my ancestors
They predicted my predilection to poetry
Leaving me funds for my inevitable poverty
Which I have just received
In the nick of time
As my fortunes waned
At the beginning of this century
My great grandmother Claire Voyant
Who kept her secrets to herself
Asked only one thing of her descendants
To follow the path and to bring no one harm.
